Landmark building could get additional storey
Proposals to construct a second storey on a landmark building in Parliament Sqaure have been criticised by councillors and local residents.

A planning application has been submitted to East Herts Council to construct an additional apartment and roof terrace above 8 Parliament Square.
The ground floor retail premises have recently been home to Pretty Gorgeous Cakes and popular cafe Serendipity, before the business moved exclusively online.
Hertford Town Council have objected to the proposals, with the planning sub-committee saying: "Committee objected to the conversion of the property as the proposals fail to enhance this historic building and alternative finishes would be more in keeping with the original design."
Nearby residents have also voiced their concerns about the appearance, lack of parking, overlooking and blocking of light.
The building is thought to be early 20th century, taking design cues from the nearby Green Dragon Hotel.
A decision on the application will be made by a planning officer before the Summer.
