Views sought on Hartham Action Plan

Monday 22 May 2023

Future plans for Hartham Common are the subject of a consultation being held by East Herts Council.

The new plan will guide management of the site between 2023 and 2028, including general maintenance of the common, woodlands, grazing meadows, play area, football pitches, bridges and footpaths.

Subject to funding, the 'Hartham Common Rivers Project' will see improvements to river bank profiles, the creation of formal paddling points on the River Beane with improved access to the water’s edge, tree works to reduce shading of the river, and rewetting of the former swimming pool.

The plan also aspires to develop proposals for a new leisure space on the old pitch and putt site in the north-east corner of the common between the Warren and River Beane. The possibility of a barbeque area will also be investigated.

The former pitch-and-putt site has not been used for many years

Improved lighting on the common as well as improvements to catering facilities also feature in the five-year plan.

The Hartham Common Action Plan 2023-2028 can be viewed here (PDF document) and residents can provide feedback with writing to Elgan Adlard at the Countryside Management Service, Environment and Infrastructure Department, County Hall, Pegs Lane Hertford SG13 8DN, or by emailing elgan.adlard@hertfordshire.gov.uk.

The consultation is open until Wednesday 14th June.
