Yarnbombers celebrate the Olympics
Local yarnbombers have decorated the town's postboxes yet again in celebration of the 2024 Olympic Games.

The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters has brought 26 Yarnlympic-themed Postbox toppers to Hertford featuring four key themes: Sports, Para-athletes, History and Paris.
The Society has knitted and crocheted golf, wheelchair basketball, triathletes, gymnastics, hockey, skateboarding, canoeing, cycling, swimming, para-athlete runners, heptathlon, rowing, dressage, hurdles, tennis, relay, ladies’ archery, sailing and pommel horse gymnasts – amongst others.
The postbox toppers have nodded to a very popular international sporting event happening over the summer by crafting well-known Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.
To acknowledge the history of the Olympics, there is a chariot racer and a scene at the Acropolis.
Some specific Postbox topper themes include:
• Tennis match with line and chair umpires and ball boy.
• Eight synchronised swimmers (legs only!!!).
• Two boxers in the ring with a referee and a crowd of spectators.
• 7 Para-athlete runners.
• The heptathlon.
• Skateboarding with an upside down rider.
• Wheelchair basketball.
• Hockey match with 70 spectators.
• Vision impaired runner & guide.
• Triathlon.
• An ancient Greek chariot racer.
• Arc de Triomphe including the tomb of the unknown soldier.
• The Eiffel Tower.

The Society has devised a quiz to engage and encourage children to explore 9 Hertford Town Centre Postbox displays. Follow the link on the Society's website to download the quiz.
A printed copy of the quiz can be collected from the Yarnbombers’ stall in Salisbury Square, Hertford and completed quizzes may be returned there too. Quizzes may also be collected and returned at Hertford Town Tourist & Information Centre.

A stall in Salisbury Square will be open on the following dates, weather-permitting, between 11.00am – 4.00pm every Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, from 25th July until 11 Aug.
SSOHC has 3 aims: to bring joy, engender community spirit and fundraise for local charities. The Society's chosen charity this year is Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal.
The website provides links to location maps and also a link to make a donation to the Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal.
