Wednesday 24 July 2024

Work on a new waste transfer station in Ware is progressing on schedule, with the facility due to become operational in early 2026.

The facility will be used to separate and sort different types of refuse before being transferred again to another area or facility. From here, waste is moved on for recycling or landfill.

Piling at the site in Westmill Road has taken place to enable a concrete slab to float across the old landfill site enabling a previously unusable area of land to be brought back into use. The transfer station building will then be built on top of the concrete. The new facility will be located behind Ware Recycling Centre on the A602, north of the town.

Once operational, the transfer station will receive kerbside waste and recycling materials from the surrounding areas, while a bulky waste shredding facility will assist in early delivery of the council’s ambition to send zero waste to landfill by 2030. The building will be equipped with modern noise and odour controls, ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding areas.
