Car park charges to increase
Charges in Hertford's car parks are set to increase as the District Council battles to balance its budget for the coming year.

Parking for an hour in one of the town's car parks will rise from £1.10 to £1.20, with a two hour stay increasing from £2.10 to £2.40. A three hour stay will cost £3.60 - up from £2.80.
The new charges are comparable with those in neighbouring districts, with North Herts charging £1.50 for the first hour, £2.10 in Stevenage and £1.30 in Hoddesdon. Parking in Welwyn and Hatfield starts at £2.05 for two hours.
The increased charges are part of a package of measures that also include increasing fees for garden waste collection and reductions in community grants.
The council is facing increasing costs such as staff salaries and National Insurance contriubutions.
We know with parking it’s a guaranteed success route to disappointing and upsetting people.
We've got a big drag anchor in terms of unpaid borrowings. And it’s against that backdrop which we have to look imaginatively right across the council’s expenditure and income generation, including parking.
:: Cllr Tim Hoskin, Executive Member for Environmental Sustainability
The authority is expected to recommend an increase of 3% in its council tax precept for the coming financial year starting in April.
