Mayor welcomes twin town guests

Friday 18 October 2024

The Mayor of Hertford recently welcomed a visiting party from the German twin town of Wildeshausen in Lower Saxony.

The reception at Hertford Castle celebrated the friendship between the two towns, with guests enjoying refreshments and a tour guided by volunteers from the Friends of Hertford Castle.

Gifts were exchanged between the Mayor of Hertford and her counterpart, the Mayor of Wildeshausen Jens Kuraschinski, with
further gifts given to guests from Wildeshausen as a memento of their visit.

The Mayor of Hertford, Councillor Rachel Carter, commented: "Meeting our friends from Wildeshausen has been one of the
highlights of my Mayoral year and has been a great opportunity to strengthen the ties between our twin towns".

Following their reception at Hertford Castle, the Friends of Wildeshausen took the opportunity to explore more of Hertford
with a walking quiz kindly arranged by Trish Goldsmith, Chair of the Friends of Wildeshausen and later enjoyed a meal together which was also attended by the Mayor of Hertford.

The Friends of Wildeshausen was established in 1995, to foster understanding between communities by encouraging friendships and organising exchanges and activities with the people of Wildeshausen.
