Neighbourhood Plan proposed for Castle Plus
A new Neighbourhood Plan for the town centre and south of Hertford is being proposed.

East Herts Council has received an application from Hertford Town Council for the designation of the Castle Ward, Kingsmead West Ward and Bengeo South Ward in Hertford as a neighbourhood area.
Neighbourhood planning allows communities to shape development in their areas through the production of Neighbourhood Plans. They were introduced in the Localism Act 2011.
Until recently Hertford was made up of four wards - Bengeo, Castle, Kingsmead and Sele.
A review of the four wards was undertaken by The Boundary Commission with Kingsmead and Bengeo both being split in to two, giving a total of six wards for the town - Bengeo, Bengeo South, Castle, Kingsmead, Kingsmead West and Sele.
Three of the town's wards already have Neighbourhood Plans - Bengeo, Kingsmead and Sele.
The so-called Castle Plus Neighbourhood Plan would cover the town centre south of the river and an area to the immediate east, plus a swathe of land from Hertingfordbury to Foxholes Farm.
East Herts Council are currently conducting a public consultation on the area designation and any interested person may submit representations by emailing planningpolicy@eastherts.gov.uk. The consultation ends on 23rd May 2024.
